IELTS test in Nigeria – January 2023 (Academic Module)

According to IELTS test takers from Nigeria, Ghana, Uzbekistan and Iran, the Writing tasks 1 and 2 in their recent exam were the same. The Speaking questions below are from Nigeria.

Writing task 1 (a report)

The diagram below shows the use of 5 different types of transport by people in the UK in 1990 and 2010 (in billion kilometres travelled).

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Writing task 2 (an essay)

In some countries, more and more parents begin to teach their children at home rather than send them to school. Do the advantages of this trend outweigh the disadvantages?

Part 1 (Interview)

– What is your full name?
– Where are you from?
– Do you currently work or study?
– What is your daily routine at work?
– What would you do if you quit your job?
– What makes a home complete, in your opinion?
– Do you feel comfortable at home with your family?
– Are people in your country generally close with their families?

Part 2 (Cue Card)

Describe the home of a person you know well. You should say

– who the person is
– how you know him/her
– when you visited him/her at home
– and explain how you felt after your visit.

Part 3 (Discussion)

– Is it easy to find an affordable place to live in your country?
– Why is there a shortage of affordable housing in your country?
– Should countries invest more in affordable housing?
– Do people in your country prefer to live in apartments or houses?
– Is it more common to rent or buy a house in your country?
– What are the advantages of renting compared to owning your home?
